Garden Jobs   /   guide

Give the tools a place near the job

Garden tools belong near their work, but they also need safe storage.

Garden tools belong near their work, but they also need safe storage. Choose a location that protects people and equipment while keeping the next job easy to begin.

List the few tools used most often and follow their care instructions. Clean and dry them as appropriate before storage. Keep sharp, heavy or powered equipment secured, especially where children or visitors could reach it. Store chemicals separately according to their labels and local requirements.

Organise by the action

Put potting tools together if that is a recurring task, and keep suitable gloves or a small waste container nearby. Avoid filling a convenient bucket with so many unrelated items that the tool you need is always underneath a blade. Use stable storage rather than leaning equipment where it can fall.

Check the route from storage to the work area. A perfect arrangement behind several heavy pots is not convenient in practice. Outdoor storage also needs to suit the equipment and local weather; a covered corner may still be damp.

After a job, return the tools and note anything that needs repair or replacement. Do not keep using damaged equipment because it has a designated hook. A useful tool place reduces searching and makes condition visible, while leaving the garden's working and walking routes clear.
